Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

Snow boots are necessary, but also a nuisance

Maeve is bundled up.

We’re in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a week during Charlie’s block leave.  There’s snow everywhere, which you know I love if you’ve read any of my previous posts. Winters are supposed to be white (according to my Northern mind).

With the cold temperatures come the extra, thick layers:  long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, jacket, hat, gloves, and boots.  It takes several minutes just to get out the door.  When preparing to bear the wintery elements, the necessary accessories become nuisances.  I’ll explain.

Last night my family went to dinner to celebrate my sister’s 25th birthday.  We had a reservation at a hip, swanky restaurant that is one of our favorites.  Michael does as well as expected for a two-year-old at a restaurant, and did a great job considering the environment last night.  His snow boots were what disturbed me the most during dinner.  As Michael jumped around from one person’s lap to another, his boots made the floor around our table wet and dirty with melted snow and ice.  Hence, Maeve’s blankets and our jackets got filthy from touching the floor.  His boots were pulled off several times as he moved positions around our tight quarters; they got caught on the table or my legs every time he moved.

Michael has a nice snow jacket that keeps him warm. Maeve has a snowsuit that covers her feet, hands, and head.  It zips from head to toe keeping her nice and toasty.  If only the car seat straps could extend a little longer to make getting them in and out of the car a little easier.  I feel like I will break their arms as I manipulate their bodies into their respective seats.  When I tighten the straps, they both look at me like I’m applying too much pressure for a comfortable ride.

Definitely glad we don’t have to do this in NC!

Sarah-Sayle got a fantastic pair of LL Bean snow boots that are double layered in the inside. They are so warm, so cute…and I HATE them! They take the most time to put on, half the time I just say forget it and throw a different pair of shoes on him, and Sayle’s awkward in them when he does wear them. (Probably because I’ve jacked up the layers in the boots somehow, but I choose to believe it’s the boots)
    Boo to snow boots!
