Pittsburgh and the Super Bowl!
It’s been great being in Pittsburgh during this exciting time for the city. In case you live under a rock, or just don’t follow sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be in the Super Bowl tomorrow! Since I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and Charlie attended high school in the city, we are Steelers’ fans.
When Michael was five months old, the Steelers won the Super Bowl. I have pictures of him dressed in black and gold with a Terrible Towel draped across his high-chair. Now, it’s Maeve’s turn. For the AFC Championship game against the New York Jets, Maeve sported her Steelers’ cheerleading outfit (the Steelers don’t even have cheerleaders). She’ll wear it again tomorrow for the big game.
Since we’ve spent a few weeks in Pittsburgh, Michael has experienced a steady dose of Steelers-mania. Signs for the Steelers are everywhere: in grocery stores, gas stations, banks, the post office, and even in the lawns of private residences. Because of this, Michael, who is two and a half years old, can read! When he sees a Steelers’ fan sign, he reads it, “Here we go Steelers. Here we go!”
Michael now shows his support for the Steelers by wearing his Steelers sweatshirt. Charlie has a similar hoodie that he wore for the AFC Championship game and I wore a t-shirt to show my support. We went to a sports bar and restaurant with my entire family to watch the game. The restaurant had many extra large screen TVs broadcasting the game. Everyone there was cheering for the Steelers and dressed in black and gold. Several times during the game, the entire establishment erupted in the Steelers’ cheer as almost everyone waved their Terrible Towel in the air including Michael.
“Here we go Steelers. Here we go!”
