Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

Let’s get our move on.

The time is fast approaching for our family to pack up and move on out of the Jacksonville area. We’ve lived here three and a half years, enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, but must move on to Charlie’s next duty station.  I suppose the saying is true:  ”Home is where the Marine Corps sends us.”

Charlie and I moved here a week after our wedding.  We hardly brought anything with us because we hardly had anything in our name.  The couch we were using was the piece of furniture my parents bought themselves right after they were married over thirty years ago!  Thankfully, we’ve been able to upgrade since we’ve moved in.

Having two children has immensely increased our household-item inventory list.  Toys, baby gear, and clothing fill the plastic bins we used for our personal belongings on our move here three years ago. That was a fairly easy move. We packed up, moved, and unpacked.  Minimal complications.  Meeting Michael and Maeve’s needs while in the moving process will create complexities for me.

Packing alone will take a few days, moving a few more, and unpacking even more.  We want to do a partial Do-It-Yourself (DITY) move to have better control of our belongings.  This will force me to be organized, very organized, something I’m not always the best at being.

How do I go about packing our house and especially our children’s items?  For you military moms, do you have any suggestions for me?  Time is on my side, we’re not moving for a couple of months, but I also know time will fly and I don’t want to be ill prepared.

My best advice Sarah is to have a couple surprise toys purchased in advance to break out at crucial times during the moving process to keep Michael occupied. We bought Caden a surprise space station by Imaginex and new toy food for his kitchen. They worked like a charm and kept him happy when we needed to pay attention to the movers and keep him out of the way! On that note, I would be happy to help you on this end of the spectrum…the kids are welcome to come play here while they pack. It would be less traumatic for Michael and he’d have fun playing with Caden one last time. Let me know whatever you need. And MAN, I’m going to miss you…

Great suggestion Steph. Thanks! … and I’m going to miss YOU!
