Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Marbles Kids Museum

Owen building a tower of legos

Raleigh has a fabulous kids museum called Marbles. We took our 8 month old there earlier this week and had a blast.  We thought he might be too young to have a good time but we were sorely mistaken.  Owen had a great time and so did we!  Some of our favorite parts were the extra large legos, musical instruments, and foam blocks.  They make an effort to have something for kids of all ages and even have a baby section so that they can play without worry of being run over by other kids.  The museum is two full stories of fun, bright colors, and activities.  I think an older child could happily spend hours there but we did about 2 hours before Owen was done.

I wish we had something like this a little closer to us.  I could see having a membership to a kids museum and going once a week for a play dates with friends or just a change of scenery from home.  It is a great place to burn off steam and learn, too.

My husband and I sat at a giant checker board with Owen and played while he sat and watched.  It didn’t take long before he was trying to “help” daddy and while he didn’t know how to play he was trying.  I got a glimpse into the future of our game nights and it made me excited.  We will tell him how he played his first game of checkers at a kids museum.

Have you visited a kids museum?

There’s a nice children’s museum in Wilmington that we’ve been to. Nathan and Emily loved it. I wish it were a little closer, or we’d be there all the time too. Glad to hear you had fun in Raleigh, we’ll have to go to Marbles the next time we’re up there!

We actually went to Wilmington this weekend and went to the children’s museum. It was cute but the one in Raleigh was WAY nicer, brighter, cleaner, and cheaper. You should check it out next time you are in Raleigh.
