Baby, It’s Cold Outside
I don’t know about you all, but I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather. Growing up in Florida, I didn’t have to deal with it very often and even when it was “cold,” flip flops were still acceptable. As for snow, it is completely foreign to me. Cold weather in North Carolina means two things to me, certain parts of my body go numb and everyone seems to be sick.
This past week, it was bitterly cold and it snowed quite a bit (in my opinion). Braylin and I only left the house a couple of times the entire week. On one of our outings we went to the grocery store and I am pretty sure every child that we saw had a runny nose or was coughing (hacking). I suddenly turned into a germaphobe and wiped down my cart with an antibacterial wipe. My plan was to keep Braylin in her car seat and not touch her, of course that lasted about ten minutes, so I slathered on some hand sanitizer and entertained her. I read somewhere that babies should be exposed to germs to build up their immune systems, I think that is crazy talk, what do you think?
Anyway, we stayed at home more in the past week than we ever have. There were a few days that it was too cold to take the dog for a walk, so we literally stayed inside all day long. We did a lot of playing and reading. Do you think babies get bored from being inside all the time?
I know that people that live in much colder climates than we do have to take their babies out in the weather, but I just can’t bring myself to make it happen. Is it bad that I turn into a hermit when it is cold outside?
