A Thousand Questions a Minute
There are many things I love about kids. They are innocent and fearless at the same time, can find an adventure in anything, have so much love it can barely be contained, make friends instantly and have giggle fits over nothing.
They also ask a lot of questions, so much so that I can’t decide if it’s because they really want to know or they’ve figured out that it’s an effective torture method for parents. Sometimes they’ll ask you the same question over and over and over and over again. That’s always a lot of fun, especially if you’re trapped in a car with them for five + hours.
Right before Christmas, we took a little family excursion to Asheville, NC. It’s less than seven hours away from where we live and luckily both the kids are great travelers so a day of driving with them was nothing to flinch at. We planned to make a couple stops along the way so everyone could stretch out and help break up the monotony.
Serophina was very excited to get to Asheville. I mean, VERY excited. So excited that only 45 minutes into the trip she started asking the question that would make us want to stick a fork through our heads, for the entire rest of the way… “Are we in Asheville yet?”
“No honey, we’re only in New Bern, we have a long way to go.”
“Oh.”
Another 10 minutes later, “Are we still in New Bern?” and ”When are we going to be in Asheville?”
Oh joy! We were surely in for a long drive because kids apparently have no concept of time.
As soon as we crossed into Asheville we couldn’t wait to tell Serophina that we were finally there. Kevin and I blurted out the news at the same time only to find that our little interrogator was fast asleep.
We ended up having a great trip and there were many, many questions about everywhere we went and everything we saw and did. We answered as best and patiently as we could but it was exhausting! I’ll have to take that aspect into consideration next time I plan a trip!
Do your kids ask a lot of questions?
