Breanna Sykes

Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

Brynn Reese

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

The Bouncy Seat

When Nathan and Emily were little, we never bought one of the bouncy, vibrating chairs.  A good friend loaned us Nathan’s swing and activity gym.  We bought an activity gym for Emily, and I think my mom bought a swing as well.  I always thought that those chairs looked like a good idea, but I just never got around to getting one.

This time around, we received a number of gift cards for baby presents.  I decided it was time to acquire a seat since I wasn’t even spending my own money.  Now, five months later, I’m wondering why on earth I didn’t get one with Nathan and Emily.

This seat is *amazing*.  Can I tell you all the things I love about it?  First, it wasn’t expensive.  It’s one of the cheaper of the big baby items we have, actually.  Additionally, it’s small and doesn’t take up much space.  Thank heavens!  Moreover, it’s lightweight and easy to carry around the house even while hauling Chub-chub around.  I also like that, being off the ground, he’s a little bit out of Nathan and Emily’s chaos and craziness.

The best part of the bouncy seat, though, is how much Joshua loves it.  He’ll start laughing when you put him in it.  He can occupy himself for over half an hour at a stretch while bouncing himself, playing with the toys with his hands and feet, and enjoying a higher (and safer) vantage point from which to observe his loony big brother and sister.  This seat has allowed me to get so much more done now that I don’t have to hold him all the time.  Hallelujah.  That right there makes it worth every penny (that I didn’t spend – even better!).

I am so glad we finally got a bouncy seat for Joshua.  I love how much he loves it, and it buys me some time to maybe fold some laundry or do dishes.  Hypothetically speaking, of course.

What baby item has made your life easier?  How has it done so?

I, too, love the bouncy seat! Ours is a hand me down and the “functions” only work half the time, but Braylin doesn’t mind… She loves it!

I used the bouncy seat at night a few times when Owen was gassy, he seemed to like being upright a little and the vibration calmed him. I put it right in the bassinet and let him sleep in it, it really saved the day. Go bouncy seat!

Bouncy seats really can be awesome. I’m glad to hear other babies are loving theirs as well!
