Lately Isaac has been all about refusing things he normally enjoys eating or drinking, and it’s getting a bit out of hand. For example, fresh raspberries have always been a winner in his book, so I go out and buy some every week despite the fact that I normally have to fight the elderly lady next to me to get a good box at the grocery store, and they are one of the most expensive fruits my son could have chosen. Just like Jessica’s picky eater, Isaac shuns things like bananas, no idea why. “My boss” decided to say no thank you to all solid foods recently, and I was saving the raspberries as my ace in the hole. I knew they were a sure fire food he could not deny, so when Isaac spit them out I was shocked. Were they sour or maybe too cold? Nope, I sampled

When someone said “postpartum depression”, I immediately had the image of Kirstie Alley in Look Who’s Talking crying about the FTD commercial in my head. I was hopeful that I wasn’t going to be a teary-eyed-snot-flowing-everywhere kind of mommy after having Sayle. While I was very aware of the classic signs of postpartum, I was not aware of this pesky little state called the baby blues-until they hit me. I had Sayle on a Wednesday and got home with him on Friday afternoon. That’s when anxiety kicked in. I couldn’t sit still and my mind raced constantly. I didn’t have any newborn clothes for Sayle. I was a horrible mother. My house wasn’t clean enough. The dogs needed grooming. I’m not changing his diaper right. Was Sayle getting enough to eat? What if I mess something up? I had my final melt-down on day one when Sayle had spit-up come from his nose and

When I got there he said, “Look, he is walking!” Since Owen is only three and a half months I knew it wasn’t true but I have to admit that I was pretty impressed. My husband was holding Owen under the armpits and tipping him from one side to the other while Owen took very deliberate steps forward. I just sat there and watched in disbelief, does he really know how to walk already? Now don’t get me wrong, he cannot walk on his own but he seems to understand how to take steps forward. This got me thinking about whether walking is instinctive or learned. Owen sees us walking, the dog walking, and people walking all the time, is he watching and learning? If he never saw us walking, would

Hurricane season is upon us and with all kinds of crazy storms headed our way, including Earl, I realized that it’s time to take out my checklist and make sure I’m prepared if a hurricane actually hits our area. The thought of having to evacuate is a little scary. Even more frightening is thinking about what could possibly happen to our little town if a hurricane passed through, and how it might change our lives. Going over my checklist, some things were pretty obvious like stocking up on plenty of water, non-perishable food items, batteries and medication. But I started thinking about all the things I would need for Serophina and Saioa in case we had to suddenly leave our home because of hurricane. Here’s my checklist for Kids and Babies. For Babies: 1. Plenty of diapers, wipes and diaper rash cream 2. Blankets and cold/warm weather clothing 3. Infant
