A Letter to My Marine
Dear Garrett,
I miss you. I miss us. There are some things I miss more than others. Here are some of them in no particular order:
I miss putting our baby to bed together, watching her sleep and then cuddling on the couch and talking about what a beautiful, happy and angelic baby we’ve made.
I miss dreaming about the family we’ll one day have, when each child will be born and what we will name them.
I miss calling you whenever I want.
I miss watching you teach Nora new things.
I miss tickle fights.
I miss long runs together and feeling like I can keep up with you, like I’m an equal half.
…and then I think about the things you probably miss and I fell like I shouldn’t complain. You miss all of the above and from how you’re living now I bet…
You miss eating a sand-free meal.
You miss using a toilet and not a grocery bag
You miss having a cold drink.
You miss being able to shower alone.
You miss being able to have a day off of work.
You miss being able to get a back massage from your wife.
You miss fresh fruits and vegetables.
I know there is probably a lot more that you miss and yet you never complain. So I wanted to say thank you for all that you are sacrificing for your family, your community and your country. You are an amazing husband, father and best friend. I am so proud to call you my Marine.
I love you!

Stay strong Kelly, Garrett is in our prayers as always and I know he will be home safe and sound and soon to his family!!! Thank YOU for doing an important job as well — being a military wife (:
Just the other day, Jeremy was cleaning off one of Bradford’s cloth diapers in the toilet and he said, “Every time I do this I think about tough guy Marine Garrett!” hahaha
We’re always thinking about you guys and hoping you get plenty of phone calls and emails
Sarah,
Thank you so much for praying for Garrett. It means a lot to me. Now me, you and Brooke need to hang out sometime so I can kill time while the hubby is away
. I’m happy to host, you guys just need to pick a day
.
Heather,
That’s too funny! Don’t tell Jeremy but when we were using cloth diapers Garrett avoided them like the plague and always ‘forgot’ to clean them. So when it was my turn to change Nora’s diaper I’d have like 5 to wash in the toilet. The way Garrett’s living now (ex: wearing the same camis for a month) I think he’d happily dunk his hands in baby poop.
We only lasted 6 months in cloth diapers but I wish I had lasted a little longer. After we started giving Nora solids (which for us was at 6 months) her poop became more solid and easier to clean. After you pass that point you should be able to just roll the poop off the diaper. Keep me posted on how they go for you! I’m so curious!
Kelly
Kelly, thank you for opening your heart and sharing such a touching letter with all of us! I am thinking a lot about you and Nora and hoping for a safe return for Garrett! Stay strong!
Thank you Theckla. I really appreciate your kind words!
Kelly
I love you! So very true, in the end…as you know it only makes you and him, and your marriage stronger.
So true Toni! and I don’t know how I’d be getting through this deployment with friends like you! Love you!!
