Mamta Singh

My name is Mamta Singh, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls, 4 year old Serophina and 1 year old Saioa. They keep me on my toes and between the two of them, there is never a dull moment in our house. I am originally from Dallas, Texas but have lived in amazing places such as Alaska, Hawaii and now Coastal North Carolina. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and thought we lived pretty adventurous lives until we became parents! I consider myself a foodie, always open to new and different culinary experiences. If I could live at a Starbucks, I would. I am a terrible procrastinator but deep down I’m a meticulous organizer. I enjoy my job as CEO of my household but before that I was a Corporate Educator for Blue Cross Blue Shield Hawaii. I was very fortunate to have the option of staying at home with my daughters and now receive my paycheck in the form of hugs & kisses! Some other things I love: travel, reading, live music, planning parties and spending quality time with friends and family! Like other moms, I do my best to provide a healthy, stimulating and loving environment for my kids and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

Momma’s Boy or Mommy Phase?

Momma’s Boy according to me: Momma’s Boy-a boy about nine of ten years old dressed in suspenders who always runs home and tattles to his mommy about all the unrealistic mean things the other kids are doing to him. Momma’s Boy according to Urban Dictionary: Momma’s Boy-A wimp. A sissy. A wuss. An immature adult male who refuses to grow up by allowing his mommy to run his life. If he’s married, his wife is probably a frustrated and lonely woman in constant opposition to her mother-in-law. Momma’s Boy according to my husband: Momma’s Boy-Sayle My husband’s definition irritates me sometimes as I don’t think Sayle is a momma’s boy, but I think he’s going through a mommy phase.  Unfortunately, I think sometimes it makes my husband feel bad as he views it that Sayle prefers me over him.  It isn’t a matter of Sayle preferring mommy over daddy, it

The End of Co-Sleeping, Part 2

Get up to speed and read Part 1 here. While in California I talked with my sister’s friend who also co-slept with both of her children. I wanted to learn as much as I could from someone who had been through co-sleeping to crib sleeping. Unfortunately for me the main tactic they found most effective was having her husband go in and soothe the crying child. With Garrett gone that isn’t an option for me. So now am I supposed to wait until Garrett gets home to sleep train Nora? On my way back to NC I stopped off in Fort Lee, VA to visit my girlfriend, Denise, who apparently co-slept with her first daughter. Denise’s daughter slept in her bed until she was 3 years-old. Denise said it was a really tough struggle because at that point Kayla could climb down from the bed herself and go and get

More Than a Cold

I reported recently that Owen got his first cold.  As it turns out, that cold has turned into an ear infection/sinus infection. My poor little guy is sick.  This is the first time we have had to deal with him being ill and I think it may be have been harder on me than it was on him. When we were at our 4 month check-up, the doctor said that if a cold lasts longer than 7-10 days it needs to be checked out.  When Owen was on day 13 of his cold I decided to take him in.  The reason I waited was that he really wasn’t getting worse but he wasn’t sleeping well and had a very runny nose.  I decided that I would have him checked out because I just didn’t want to keep wondering if there was something more going on.  I’d rather be on the

Infant Sleep Positioners Dangerous, Health Officials Warn

Driven by reports of infant deaths, U.S. health officials warned Wednesday that infant sleep positioners are dangerous and should not be used. The public health advisory, issued jointly by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), follows government reports that at least 12 babies under 4 months old suffocated in the last 13 years after being placed in a crib outfitted with a sleep positioner. All 12 died after rolling from a side to a stomach position or becoming trapped between a sleep positioner and the frame of a crib or bassinet. The government also has many more reports of babies found in potentially dangerous positions after being placed in one of these products. “Based on the information that CPSC shared with FDA, both agencies agree and are working together to stop the use of these products and get them off the

Stuffed Animal Invasion

Baby Saioa is growing bigger and bigger by the minute and as time goes by we find ourselves making more frequent trips to the attic to bring things down that she’s old enough to use now. Our most recent retrieves were the high chair, the Johnny jumper and a giant bag full of stuffed animals. I remember how happy I was the day that I had packed them all up, excited about all the new space it would create in Serophina’s room. We have a special attachment with each one of her stuffed animals. Most of them were given to her as gifts and I know exactly  when, where and from whom she received them. She loved each one of them through her baby and toddler years and shortly after she turned three, I decided it was time to put all those animals away to make room for all the

Emily’s Big Girl Bed

Cribs are one of my favorite baby items.  If it were left up to me, I’d probably leave my kids in their crib until they started climbing out.  And since my kids aren’t big climbers, they could be in a crib until they were three or four! I love cribs.  I love that my kids are safe and secure in their cribs.  There is no rolling over and falling out of bed.  I also love the containment of a crib.  Given that we’re not climbers around here, if I put my kids down for a nap or to bed in a crib, they’ll still be there when I come back.  Because they can’t get out, they’ll probably sleep while in there too.  Double bonus. The switch to a big kid bed is a little sad for two reasons.  I’m sad that my kids are growing up.  They’re already turning into
