Mamta Singh

My name is Mamta Singh, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls, 4 year old Serophina and 1 year old Saioa. They keep me on my toes and between the two of them, there is never a dull moment in our house. I am originally from Dallas, Texas but have lived in amazing places such as Alaska, Hawaii and now Coastal North Carolina. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and thought we lived pretty adventurous lives until we became parents! I consider myself a foodie, always open to new and different culinary experiences. If I could live at a Starbucks, I would. I am a terrible procrastinator but deep down I’m a meticulous organizer. I enjoy my job as CEO of my household but before that I was a Corporate Educator for Blue Cross Blue Shield Hawaii. I was very fortunate to have the option of staying at home with my daughters and now receive my paycheck in the form of hugs & kisses! Some other things I love: travel, reading, live music, planning parties and spending quality time with friends and family! Like other moms, I do my best to provide a healthy, stimulating and loving environment for my kids and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

Two Teeth Already!

Owen showing off his new teeth.

Like most mothers I enjoy seeing Owen hit milestones.  I saw his first smiles, watched him hold his head up, and track objects moved across his line of view.  But when he started drooling, putting everything in his mouth, and acting like his mouth hurt; I couldn’t believe he could be getting a tooth at just 3 months old.

The evidence was undeniable when a bright white tooth popped up just the next day.  This was one milestone that I wasn’t excited about seeing early.  I was very nervous about nursing a baby with teeth.  I know it is possible but I thought I would have more time to get used to the idea.  Since Owen was teething, he was chewing on everything and I knew that I would be one of the objects of his affection.  I did some research and found out that it shouldn’t hurt when the baby is nursing properly.  The goal is to remove him from the breast before he gets the chance to bite when he is done eating and just playing.  If he does bite then I should say, “Ouch” loudly and remove him from the breast.  I put this to the test when Owen chomped down on me that very day.  Saying “Ouch” loudly was easy because it was very painful and then I stopped him from nursing.  He made a very sad face, bottom lip sticking out and all, and started to cry.  I waited about 30 seconds and then comforted him.  He hasn’t done it again so I guess it was successful.

Over the next 2 weeks, a second tooth erupted.  Luckily, Owen wasn’t too uncomfortable from this whole experience.  My little guy is growing up fast!

Serophina drooled for the longest time and finally popped a tooth at four months… and I thought that was early!
    Way to one up, Owen!

My kids must be on the opposite end of the spectrum – my earliest was at 13 1/2 months. I can’t imagine having a baby with teeth at three months!

That’s great that Owen didn’t seem to be in a lot of pain with those teeth — some babies (ahem, not mine of course, haha yeah right) have a tough time and scream their heads off for days, weeks even, arg!
