Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

Mullet Or Bowl Cut Part 2

Can’t wait to see how this hair misadventure turned out?  If you didn’t catch part 1, please read it here.

So after Isaac had a whole new world to look at, through his unobstructed new hairstyle, I realized that although he could see better and was no longer hollering, we had a little problem.

Ok, it was a tad uneven, but the bigger problem was…he had a mullet!  Aww how cute, just like his Daddy–wait, no way, I don’t think so!  I had to remedy the solution quick before Chris saw it and wanted to keep Isaac mulleted out.

I grabbed the hand dandy scissors once again, and began to trim the sides as well as the back, effectively removing all the “party in the back” and giving my son a more enviable and modern style…the bowl cut!

Arg, I have traumatic childhood memories of this atrocious hairstyle, which is neither enviable nor modern at all!  FYI:  I am sorry if I offend anyone with one or who has a child with one, the same goes for the mullet; to each their own, they are just not my thing!

Yes, I sported the bowl, as did my sister and two brothers, up until we got into middle school and discovered a mirror and our friends finally told us the truth.  It’s not particularly flattering on most folks, especially females!  What?  Who knew?

My mom was a bowl cut master though, and actually did place a bowl on our heads to obtain the crisp clean line.  I’m sure it was an easy haircut/hairstyle, and raising four unruly kids had to have kept her busy, so I can’t fault Susan Cooke (:  Luckily I found and destroyed most of the evidence, but there might be a photo or two still out there, yikes!

Wow, again with the random hair tangent, sorry.

At the end of the day we had a slightly uneven yet adorable bowl cut, and it was starting to grow on me.  I missed Isaac’s sweet waves and curls, but now he was a year old and actually looked like a little boy instead of a baby who strangers thought was a girl.  Another plus is he could see better, it was less trouble for me as well, and there’s no more gel!  Success!

What do you guys think?  Honest opinions are welcome, it’s ok (:

Isaac’s new haircut is lovely and allows you to see all of his cute features.

While I do love a good mullet, he looks super cute in the ‘after’ shots!

Thanks guys, I wasn’t sure at first but it has grown on me! Lavinia, I didn’t think about seeing his features better, but that is a good point! And Emily, don’t worry, we can give Aaron or Zoey a mullet for you.
