Breanna Sykes

Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

Brynn Reese

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

Gellin’ Like A Felon

Along with pre-chewing Isaac’s food, using disposable diapers, and many other things I said I would never do, I am now gelling my son’s hair.

Shame on me; I don’t even style my own hair (hello, no maintenance mom haircut!), yet here I am squirting handfuls of gel onto my hands and going to town on Isaac’s fabulous hair.

Actually, Isaac’s hair and it’s fabulousness is the reason why I have begun having to attempt to control it with “ultimate hold styling gel.”

"Ay, you talkin" ta me?

The poor kid’s hair is so long now that not only does it cover his eyes and touch his nose now when it’s combed down flat, but he is also sporting a fashionable rat tail which will grow into a mullet if I don’t take action soon!

I tried parting it, brushing it behind his ears, twisting it, etc. and on one particularly embarrassing episode, I even put it in a ponytail on the top of his head, anything to put off the inevitable first haircut.

Isaac is just way too cute with his long hair, and what if his darling little waves never come back?

This is why I have come to the conclusion that I either gel it up and out of his face or I give in and get it cut.  I bought a 3-pack of hair product, just so you know the extent of my stubbornness!

Some days I gel it and wave it and curl it around my fingers, resulting in the tousled bed-head look, and other days I just slick it straight back, Mafia style.  It all depends on how late I am running that morning for work and what kind of mood we are both in.

Isaac is surprisingly patient with all my shenanigans; he allows me a good 5 minutes of holding still before starting to squirm around and try to escape.  I think when I finally do cave in and get it trimmed (not cut, just trimmed, thank you) my son will be good in the chair, but we shall have to see about that…Isaac has fooled me before…

He is so cute! I managed to avoid a haircut for Serophina till she was TWO years old! It was just too pretty to mess with. Once I finally took her in for a TRIM, not a cut, I got lucky and the lady did a great job and evened everything out and her hair ended up looking better than what it already was.
    I totally understand your fears!

Aw, thanks Mamta (: The trouble is he knows he is cute and tries to use that to his full advantage!

Good for you for waiting so long with yours, and I’m glad it turned out fine. I wish I could have waited, because Isaac’s curls are not coming back, booo.
