Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

Crack the…Jake?

A few weeks ago we bought a trampoline for our family to enjoy.  We bought it for Isaak’s birthday knowing the kids would ALL enjoy it more than just him alone.  What we didn’t expect is that Austin and I would enjoy it more than all five kids combined!!  It seems like we find ourselves jumping on it and playing games, kicking the kids off so we have more room and learning new tricks.  We’re on it more than the kids are!  I guess I’d forgotten how much fun a trampoline is!

One evening we were all out on the trampoline bouncing away and playing a game called, Crack the Egg.  I’m sure you’ve heard of it, but if not, one person sits in the middle of the trampoline all curled up in a ball (think fetal position) and the others have to bounce the middle person to try and “crack” them.  They have to get the middle person to let go of their bent knees and spread out.

We had all taken turns as the egg and it was now Jake’s turn as Austin and I bounced around him trying to get him to unfold.  Well, it turned out that we took the phrase, “crack”, a tad too literally.  Before we knew it, Jake was flying in the air and his knee smashed right into the top part of his cheek bone and the poor kid was in immediate pain!

I knew right away that it was going to be a bad bruiser because it started swelling and turning purple just minutes after it happened.  Sure enough, several days later Jake had a bona-fide shiner with his parents to blame!  I felt horrible and worried about it the first few days wondering if it had broken his orbital bone or damaged his eye.  Luckily I have great friends who are so low key and chill and I was put to ease when my good friend Dena said, “What’s childhood without a good black eye?”  Not to mention Jake the fact that Jake looked pretty cool and tough for about 2 weeks!

Has anything like this ever happened to you?
