Making Baby Blankets; Asking for Help, Part 2
Read part 1. I decided that I could only work on the project if Garrett was watching Nora –just in time for Garrett to leave for six weeks for a work-up.
He gave me one night to work alone and my sewing machine did a nice little number of adding extra thread on the underside of the blanket. I didn’t realize it until I had gone all of the way around the baby blanket. Now I not only had lots of baby blankets to finish; I also had one baby blanket that needed to be torn apart before it could be finished.
In despair I reached out to my friend Carrie Belt who contacted her Mom, Mrs. Belt, for help. She thankfully agreed! The three of us spent an entire day slaving over the baby blankets. One of us would watch Nora and distract her from the project while the other two would work. In one day we managed to do more than I had been able to do in 5 months.
I finally felt like I was getting a hand up on the project when I get an email from the woman who is heading the project. She wanted to know where I was with my blankets and told me that it would be okay if I wanted to turn all of the materials back to her. She would find someone else to sew them. I guess I am taking too long, huh?
I must admit I was tempted to turn in a half finished project but I just couldn’t do it. I started this project and gosh darn it I’m going to finish it! I have been working feverishly while Nora sleeps and even attempted to work on it with her awake before deciding that was a bad idea. I will be finished soon! I should only have one more night of a sleeping Nora and a sleepless Mommy. Thank goodness!
I have definitely learned a valuable lesson which I would like to share with you. DON’T VOLUNEER FOR CRAFT PROJECTS WHEN YOU HAVE BABIES UNDERFOOT!
Have you attempted a craft project with your little one around? How did it turn out?
