Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

Trapped!

Now that Isaac is crawling… well, actually he is not technically crawling yet; he is just kind of scooching or creeping or slithering along you could say.

Regardless, this baby gets from point A to point B pretty quickly, so my mom got him a super size play-yard thing which has been a lifesaver!

Trapped in paradise?

Trapped in paradise?

On one hand I feel bad because Isaac does seem trapped in a cage, and he will stare out beseechingly with his big doe eyes, just begging for his freedom.

On the other hand, it is big so he can crawl and roll around and soon probably pull up on it.  Also this play-yard is colorful with big ABCD’s on the sides, so he is mentally stimulated, and quite a few toys can fit inside of it as well.

It’s pretty much the perfect anti-baby trouble device, because I know that as much as I may baby proof our house, a certain someone will always find a way to put something bad in his mouth, stick a body part where it does not belong, tip something over, etc.

I made a mistake just the other day underestimating Isaac’s determination and army crawling abilities when I walked into another room to get a drink of water while leaving him on a blanket on the floor with some toys.

In the less than a minute it took me to grab a water bottle, Isaac had managed to scoot all the way across the living room to Chris’s sacred guitar shrine, grab a low hanging instrument, pull it down, and get a piece of it in his mouth!

Luckily there was no serious damage to baby or collector’s edition, but I learned my lesson.  I can’t leave Isaac alone for a second, even when he is in an apparently safe area of the house.

Enter wondrous play-yard of fun and safety!

Now Isaac can chill in there as I write, make dinner, or do anything else that requires my full concentration.

Greatest “toy” ever, in my book!

What is yours?

Sayle initially had a love/hate relationship with his play pen (love it for 5 minutes then hate it) but now he is pretty content in it. Once Isaac learns to stand, he will love the game of throwing the toys from the play pen and then crying because he really wants it now that its out of reach.
I also rotate toys in and out of there so Sayle is never bored.
Better get ready for Baby Alcatraz Sarah, Isaac is seriously on the move!

Can’t wait for that game! We already play the highchair version of that one…good times, yeah right!
Toy rotation is a good idea, thanks…and I am in no way ready for baby alcatraz, yikes! How can I make Isaac stay still longer, hmmm (:
