Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

An End to the Bottle Saga

no bottles

Well, my friends, the time has finally come where I can say,” Isaak is no longer on a bottle.”  Wow!  I never thought I’d be able to say that before he turned two.  When I first talked about his bottle saga, I had taken comfort in knowing that I wouldn’t even attempt to separate him from the bottle until he was at least two.  Now, here he is, one month before his second birthday and he’s DONE!

If you can’t hear me, I’m singing the song, “Freedom, I won’t let you down, freedom, I won’t give you up…!” I am ecstatic over this accomplishment and SO happy it’s over.

Well, do you want to know how it all happened?  Okay, so three weeks ago,  Isaak and I took a short trip to the commissary.  The weather was so nice and cool outside, I decided to roll down the windows for both of us to enjoy the wind on our faces.  Isaak has been known to throw many things out the window of the car as it’s moving.

I didn’t think twice about him possibly throwing his coveted bottle though, it seemed WAY too priceless to his lips to chunk.

When we got to the commissary I started to get Isaak out of his car seat and much to my surprise, I couldn’t find his bottle anywhere in the car.  Isaak has recently become really good at communicating so I asked him, “Where is your dah-doo Izey?”  He then confidently replied, “huh-side” (outside).

I didn’t question him for a moment and knew that he was telling the truth about what he had done with his bottle.  I shrugged it off as no big deal, thinking I’d just get him a new one at home, and finished the shopping .

As bedtime approached, I started looking around the house for a clean bottle.  Isaak likes to hide them all over the place so that wasn’t anything new to me.  Unfortunately, I soon realized there were NONE of Isaak’s bottles anywhere (he uses a different kind than Gus) and the one that he chunked out the window must have been the very last one!  I knew our supply was dwindling, but the LAST ONE?!?

At first I panicked, but then it hit me,  Isaak KNOWS what he did with the bottle so what better way to tell him there are no more than this?!  GENIUS!  For about four days we struggled with some whining and crying but each time, I would simply remind him that he threw his bottle “huh-side” and that it was gone-gone, bye-bye.

Now we’re happily using sippy cups and he hasn’t asked about his bottles in over a week.  I’m SO stoked and excited that it turned out to be SO easy and painless…for everyone!
