Mamta Singh

My name is Mamta Singh, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls, 4 year old Serophina and 1 year old Saioa. They keep me on my toes and between the two of them, there is never a dull moment in our house. I am originally from Dallas, Texas but have lived in amazing places such as Alaska, Hawaii and now Coastal North Carolina. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and thought we lived pretty adventurous lives until we became parents! I consider myself a foodie, always open to new and different culinary experiences. If I could live at a Starbucks, I would. I am a terrible procrastinator but deep down I’m a meticulous organizer. I enjoy my job as CEO of my household but before that I was a Corporate Educator for Blue Cross Blue Shield Hawaii. I was very fortunate to have the option of staying at home with my daughters and now receive my paycheck in the form of hugs & kisses! Some other things I love: travel, reading, live music, planning parties and spending quality time with friends and family! Like other moms, I do my best to provide a healthy, stimulating and loving environment for my kids and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

Starting Sloppy Solids

Apparently Isaac does not need my help with his meals anymore.  He allows me to get the peas out of the fridge, or whatever delicious veggie puree on today’s menu, and mix the cereal, but that’s about it.  As soon as I put the first bite in his mouth, all bets are off — the spoon is in his death grip and the food is in his hair, up his nose, and even a little bit in his mouth, thank goodness.

Gimme that spoon!

Gimme that spoon!

I admit, at first it was just a cute photo op, and I thought he was just being silly, but then I realized Isaac was actually attempting to feed himself by getting said spoon from point A (a chubby clenched baby hand) to point B (a wide open baby bird mouth).

Come on now, I don’t let my son call the shots every time, just when I am going to bathe him right after (:  I think that occasionally letting him play with his spoon could help his hand-eye coordination as well as teach him to feed himself sooner?  I don’t know, but it’s fun trying!

Sometimes Chris will feed Isaac a meal, and he takes the old airplane technique to a whole new level by becoming the plane, complete with really loud annoying sound effects.  Dinner conversation is not an option at this point because all you can hear is Chris clowning around and Isaac screeching happily at him.  But I can’t complain too much, because it works for him; when Isaac laughs at his daddy, Chris zooms a spoonful in.

I guess we both have our different little games we play to get the little guy to eat a meal — mine is messier but his is louder!

Anyone want to share their own personal feeding techniques?

first of all, i love his hair!! so precious.

i hate hate hate solids and i’ll be the first to admit that i NEVER star my kids on solids until they are ready for crackers and biter biscuits and mum mums. i think baby food is super annoying and messy and most of the time my kids don’t even like the stuff. i’ve boycotted baby foods. hows that?

Yes, I am joining you on the mission to keep our sons hair long and luxurious (:

So you skipped baby food altogether and went straight from formula to burgers, eh? Hehe, Isaac is always eyeballing my food, but now that we have progressed from veggies to fruits he is a lot happier with the whole baby food deal, so I guess I will give it another chance…for now!

I have witnessed such occasions, they are both exciting and hilarious. Memories worth savoring and taking pictures galore! You definitely lose all your coolness and revert back to what ever silly antic you can come up with to get that food where it belongs.

Laura it’s so true…I am a complete idiot when trying to get those last couple bites into a closed little mouth! You make it look so easy (:
