Baby Guitar Hero
So my husband has decided Isaac will be a musician like him. Since our son cannot talk yet, he does not get a say in the matter, and I truly hope for both their sakes that Isaac is not tone deaf like his mom! I cannot carry a tune, but luckily that doesn’t stop me from making a complete fool out of myself singing songs to him (:

Look at that concentration!
Some background info: Chris used to play in a local band for years and still writes and plays his own music. He can play a song after hearing it just once, which is pretty neat. There is also a guitar collection in our living room, which I know will be troublesome when Isaac begins to crawl, but for now the precious instruments are safe, which brings me to my next point. If anyone touches the guitars, Chris throws a fit. For example, if I am cleaning and accidentally nudge one or if one of the dogs whacks one with an enthusiastic tail, get ready to hear it from the musician of the house!
This is why I wasn’t surprised when Chris wanted to teach Isaac to play the guitar, but when he sat him down at 6 months I was thinking disaster time! My mom held him and I watched as slobbery little baby hands grabbed at the strings, smearing all over the wood, but Chris just gritted his teeth and smiled! What?! Well, it seems that Daddy does have some patience when it comes to his guitars.
After all, Isaac’s middle name is Clapton, after Chris’s favorite guitar hero, Eric Clapton, so we’ll see if he inherited the musician gene or the “please don’t ever sing in public” gene…

First lesson with Daddy and Grandma

I think he has inherited the music gene, and what a cutie he is on those instruments. Thanks for the heads up on the guitars. I’ll make sure I never touch them, buahhhh!
Laura, I hope he does, or Chris will send him off to music boarding school next year! Yes, beware of the wrath if you mess with the instruments (: My mom strummed his banjo once just for fun and Marissa was all over her saying “Daddy says not to touch those!” Look out (:
Well I’m sure Isaac will be a great guitar hero! We have a similar situation with following in daddy’s footsteps..Hanif is set on Elijah being a soccer player-(no baseball ever). so much so that he already has 2 full size soccer balls and even one full size (like he can throw it yet) football for a back up in case soccer doesnt work out. Men and their dreams…
Ronnie, well I guess they can dream, and I’m sure they will take all the credit when our boys become famous rock stars and Olympic soccer players! Good luck Hanif (:
Much like normal you’ve given several very good content. Been lurking on the site for a little bit and needed to give thanks to you for making the effort to create it.
Well…it will be awhile before we can see if Isaac also has his daddy Chris’ artistic gene, but if he starts drawing odd things the answer is probably yes!
When Chris was 4 years old he drew Noah’s Ark in Sunday school class and very skillfully drew ALL the animals “anatomically correct”. Although his ability showed talent, I was shocked and embarrased that “my child” was the one to do such a thing. So I apologized to the teacher who had brought it to my attention, then proceeded to scold him for being naughty. Tears welled in his big blue eyes as my darling little boy turned over one of the plastic animals from the Ark playset and said…”But Mommy, look..that is how they are” (the manufacturer had molded them that way) As a young mother I learned a big lesson that day, as I realized Chris was blessed as an innate artist with a keen eye for detail. After that, I thoughtfully evaluated many things before speaking or taking action.
Hey now, what about Sarah’s artistic genes as well? Haha, what a cute story!
That is a good lesson, and I will keep it in mind with Marissa and Isaac, thanks!
Oh gosh Sarah…I totally forgot you are an artist too!!! Hmmmm….wonder what stories your mother could tell Well, I will be totally shocked if Isaac isn’t an natural artist too with genetics on both sides in play.
