Mamta Singh

My name is Mamta Singh, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls, 4 year old Serophina and 1 year old Saioa. They keep me on my toes and between the two of them, there is never a dull moment in our house. I am originally from Dallas, Texas but have lived in amazing places such as Alaska, Hawaii and now Coastal North Carolina. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and thought we lived pretty adventurous lives until we became parents! I consider myself a foodie, always open to new and different culinary experiences. If I could live at a Starbucks, I would. I am a terrible procrastinator but deep down I’m a meticulous organizer. I enjoy my job as CEO of my household but before that I was a Corporate Educator for Blue Cross Blue Shield Hawaii. I was very fortunate to have the option of staying at home with my daughters and now receive my paycheck in the form of hugs & kisses! Some other things I love: travel, reading, live music, planning parties and spending quality time with friends and family! Like other moms, I do my best to provide a healthy, stimulating and loving environment for my kids and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

What Movie Character Are You?

I have come to the realization that Dory and Marlin from Finding Nemo are based on me.  I know that is a bit arrogant, but let’s look at the facts…

Finding-Nemo

Dory is an optimistic but confused female with freckles and short term memory loss (momnesia, perhaps?)  Me in a nutshell.

Marlin is a paranoid and overprotective parent who has trouble letting go of his son and tells cheesy jokes.  Also me, except Marlin was a male, oh well.

Now I know these are fictional fishies in a cartoon kids movie, but now that I have become a parent I see myself in these two characters.  Marlin promises to never let anything happen to little Nemo, and as much as I promise the same thing to my son, I know that is not reality.  For Isaac to learn and experience life, he must make some mistakes, and I trust God to keep him safe, knowing that I can’t.

My husband is much more laid back and relaxed and reminds me of Crush, the sea turtle.  He is able to allow his son to swim in the “swirling vortex of terror” and let him learn how to handle it on his own instead of rescuing him.

Maybe there is a lesson hidden in there for me about parenting?

Issac is a mixture of Nemo, Squirt the little turtle and the seagulls all shoutin “mine, mine, mine!”  He is an independent baby, always investigating and testing his boundaries and limits, of which he apparently has none yet (:  Oh, and everything my son sees belongs to him (and is edible), hence the seagulls.

What movie characters can you relate to, either before or after kid(s)?

Well Sara…..here is some good and bad news. I too am a Marlin. My daughter is 22yrs. old, yes I know what your going to say! I am very over protective and do not want any of my children to hurt in anyway. I embarrass my daughter at times with my constant hovering but here is the good news! My daughter is well adjusted she is very responsible and wants to teach like her mother. I know she will be a fantastic teacher and mother and I would imagine my constant hovering had something to do with that. Leave them in God’s hands and he will do the rest.

Laura I am glad to hear that Marlins can raise well-adjusted and happy children! I think I am a hover-aholic (:
