What’s better than a bathtub full of rubber duckies and whales? An aquarium full of real fish and other sea creatures, of course! Back in December the aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores had one of their free admission days, so you know I was all over that, being the money saving queen that I am. I am always on the prowl for free or low cost fun activities in the area, and I had been keeping tabs on the aquarium for months (: Isaac absolutely loved it! He was only four and a half months at the time and I wasn’t sure if he would really comprehend all the neat things at the aquarium, but my little guy wanted to climb in the tanks and pet the fish, as you can see. Little did he know that this exotic lion fish is poisonous, oh well. The sharks were also a

Sayle had a pediatrician appointment Monday morning for his second round of the H1N1 shot and flu shot. We would have had the second round earlier, but we were busy battling ear infections and ridiculous fevers left and right so he could not have the shots. When we got there, the waiting room was packed so I had to take the only seat available, next to a woman who did not look like she felt fantastic. Thankfully we only had to wait about ten minutes before the nurse brought us back. Sayle was not happy about getting the shots, but I was able to quickly divert his attention with Glow Worm (a must have). We were out of there in about twenty minutes total and I was ready for the start of a very productive week. Monday evening Sayle started having watery diarrhea. Not blow out diarrhea, just liquid that

I have come to the realization that Dory and Marlin from Finding Nemo are based on me. I know that is a bit arrogant, but let’s look at the facts… Dory is an optimistic but confused female with freckles and short term memory loss (momnesia, perhaps?) Me in a nutshell. Marlin is a paranoid and overprotective parent who has trouble letting go of his son and tells cheesy jokes. Also me, except Marlin was a male, oh well. Now I know these are fictional fishies in a cartoon kids movie, but now that I have become a parent I see myself in these two characters. Marlin promises to never let anything happen to little Nemo, and as much as I promise the same thing to my son, I know that is not reality. For Isaac to learn and experience life, he must make some mistakes, and I trust God to

One of the things I am currently struggling with in my roles as Mom is when to go to the emergency room. I’m not a fan of ERs. There are a lot of sick people there so I’m always worried that Nora is going to get sicker than she already is plus the wait always seems to be astronomically long. Since coming to NC I have found one of the most valuable resources a Mom can have; the nurse advice line. I have been trying to stay away from the Internet because every time I try to Google symptoms, cancer or some other worse case scenario always comes up making me panic more than before. Lately I have been relying on whatever the nurse advice lady (or man, one time a man answered) says to do. It makes me more confident in my decision. Well, it did. Last night

I think being a mother to a daughter is such a great and scary responsibility. There is so much I feel I must teach her! I don’t want to be always ‘talking and lecturing’ to her but I want her to watch the way I live my life and learn that way. I want her to see the way I take care of myself, the way I treat others, the great faith I have in God and in prayer, the way I fulfill my personal dreams, the way I embrace my creativity, the way I choose to be unique and true to myself and the way other’s feel when they are around me. Boy that makes my stomach flip just thinking of all those things because I have a lot to improve upon. My actions will always be her biggest teacher! This is a quote I found on one of my

If there was a scoreboard in my house it would read: Sayle 10 Mommy 0 Sayle is kicking my butt these days, just like he did when he went through his purple crying phase as a newborn. This too shall pass, but I honestly feel like I’m in mommy boot camp! I’m constantly chasing my child and rearranging my house. Some of my difficulty is truly self inflicted since I felt no sense of urgency to baby-proof my home before now, but since Sayle has started crawling I have made several trips to Lowes for baby safety items and I’m sure there will be more. I never realized how much of a baby hazard my house really is. I’m kicking myself for buying a glass coffee table and glass end tables a few years ago. They were perfect for my living room and I just had to have them. Every time Sayle comes close to
