Mamta Singh

My name is Mamta Singh, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls, 4 year old Serophina and 1 year old Saioa. They keep me on my toes and between the two of them, there is never a dull moment in our house. I am originally from Dallas, Texas but have lived in amazing places such as Alaska, Hawaii and now Coastal North Carolina. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and thought we lived pretty adventurous lives until we became parents! I consider myself a foodie, always open to new and different culinary experiences. If I could live at a Starbucks, I would. I am a terrible procrastinator but deep down I’m a meticulous organizer. I enjoy my job as CEO of my household but before that I was a Corporate Educator for Blue Cross Blue Shield Hawaii. I was very fortunate to have the option of staying at home with my daughters and now receive my paycheck in the form of hugs & kisses! Some other things I love: travel, reading, live music, planning parties and spending quality time with friends and family! Like other moms, I do my best to provide a healthy, stimulating and loving environment for my kids and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

The End of Nora’s Saga: The Specialist Appointment

Nora and Garrett

Nora and Garrett

After months of doctor’s visits and medical procedures Nora’s specialist appointment finally arrived.

Nora and I woke up early and drove the two and a half hours to the appointment. I arrived an hour before our appointed time because I was afraid I’d get lost.

I brought with me Nora’s entire medical record including a DVD of Nora’s ultrasound and DVD of the meckel study. The staff was courteous and efficient and I was able to check in earlier than my appointment time.

I don’t know if you have ever been to a gastroenterologist before, but let me tell you to avoid going if you can. I’ve been trying to decide how much I should tell you all about my visit for Nora’s sake as well as yours.

So let me just tell you that the screams I heard while waiting for our visit with the Doctor were terrible. They were worse than any screams I’ve heard in any Doctor’s office I’ve ever been to. They made me want to grab Nora and head for the exit. But considering everything Nora and I had been through and the fact that we still didn’t have any answers made me stay put. I would never have been able to forgive myself if Nora had something wrong and we didn’t know it until it was too late because I had run away from medicine.

So I stayed put. When it was Nora’s turn with the doctor, she cried too. I almost cried –mostly from guilt of putting her through this appointment. After a thorough assessment the Doctor told me that Nora is allergic to dairy.

He said that a lot more people are allergic to dairy than anyone realizes because our bodies have a way of building up immunity to things. He didn’t want me to change my diet in any way. He said that Nora would build up an immunity too as she was gradually exposed to dairy.

How have food allergies affected your life?
