Hey there! I never really know how to introduce myself properly but here it goes. I am originally from New York but when my husband joined the Marine Corps we had to move to Jacksonville, NC. I absolutely love the south. The people are nicer, the weather is better, and it's a great place to raise a family. Which is why I'm here. My husband and I have a beautiful daughter Abigail Yvonne. He has been deployed for her first year but will be coming home shortly. It will be an interesting transition that I look forward to sharing with you! My life might not be all that interesting but being a mom sure is! Follow my blogs and see what I'm talking about.

I grew up in here in North Carolina and attended Duke for my undergraduate and UNC-Chapel Hill for my master’s degrees. I moved up north to Boston after completing school and worked there for five years as an inner-city middle and high school history teacher. While in Boston, I met my husband, Chad, who was there for school, and we were married the summer of 2004. 2007 was a big year for us – we welcomed our son, Nathan, Chad finished school, and we moved to Jacksonville for a great job opportunity for Chad. Nineteen months after Nathan was born, our daughter, Emily, joined our family. Twenty-two months later, Joshua came along. I’m now a stay-at-home mom to my little brood, having “retired” from teaching after Nathan’s arrival. When I’m not busy feeding, cleaning, dressing, and keeping up with Nathan, Emily, Joshua, and their dad, I enjoy reading, quilting, and going to the beach. I also still cheer for my beloved Blue Devils whenever the opportunity arises and thoroughly enjoyed last season’s national championship. Go Duke! Life can be a little busy around here (hello – three kids under the age of four!), but I’m looking forward to sharing life with three active little ones with you.

Oh my goodness, she looks just like her father!”  I used to cringe when I was seven-years-old and my parents’ friends would say that.  In my little seven-year-old mind, a daughter should look like her mother and a son should look like his father.  How could I look like my dad??  He was a BOY!

I inherited all my genes from my dad’s side of the family; we all have a thin upper lip, deep set eyes and high cheek-bones.  I could actually pass as my aunt’s daughter rather than her niece and my cousin and I could pass as sisters since we all favor each other so strongly.  I also have my dad’s short toes, high arched feet, and long legs with a short torso.  I also have my father’s personality-the Browns tend to have smart mouths and quick wit-both traits I have had to learn to curb as they tend to get me into trouble. My mother used to tell me that she put a lot of work into me and my dad got all the credit.  She delivered me after 7 drug free hours of hard labor that required forceps.  YEOW!   The only traits I got from her were arched eye brows and small shoulders-thanks Mom, I love those traits!

My husband is a mix of both his mother and father’s family.  He is tall like his maternal grandfather, has bright blue eyes and graying hair like his dad, and round eyes and full lips like his mother.  He got his athletic skills from his father’s side of the family as they all played semi-professional soccer.  He really shares traits with both of them; there are times I will look at him and see his mom, and other times I see his dad.

My upper lip disappears when I smile, just like my mom!

Since the Brown’s have such strong genes, I naturally thought Sayle was going to favor me more than my husband.  I was SO wrong.  Sayle looks exactly like my husband and his brothers.  Sayle has full lips, bright blue eyes, and a round head.  He is truly my husband’s “Mini-Me.”  The only traits he has of mine are arched eye brows and thin upper lip.  I feel so cheated!

I hate to sound like my mother, but I put a lot of work into “Project Sayle”: 39 weeks of pregnancy; 12 hours 41 minutes of labor; 2 epidurals; and an injured right leg-I think I should get more than just a lack of upper lip and eye brows!  It could be worse; he could have my attitude.  I’m praying for Sayle to take after my husband on that one, haven’t you heard of the Mother’s Curse??

I don’t think Beau has even one of my traits! He is all daddy!

Same here, it’s just not fair (:

Awww…maybe the next one will look like you. I think I’ll stop with Ava since she is definately a mini-me!

Yes, I think I will scream “that’s not fair” on this one too! My husband uses the fact that Sayle looks just like him as motivation to “start trying for number two” as maybe the next one will look like me. I have to give him an A for creativity. Men.
Crystal, your husband will have to be more creative since Ava is your mini-me.

Audrey esp early on looks just like me. Allie makes a certain facial expression that hubby always makes which is pretty amusing.

I don’t have that many baby pics of the hubby so really can’t say if they mimic his baby-look. So far they take after my family’s late-teething.

When Rylee was born, I thought..well he just looks like Rylee. There were no traits of either my husband or me. As he got older all I could see was that his head is shaped like Tray’s and they share the same hair color. Now I realize they both have “claw toe” and the ability to pinch the devil out of you with their feet. Once Rylee hit about five months old, I looked at him and realized that my son is my “mini me”. I took my baby picture to work (I was 9 months old) and had so many people ask me why I had Rylee’s picture made with a dress on. It’s absolutely insane how much he looks like me. Other than the odd shaped head…sorry Tray…he looks nothing like my husband. I love it!!! Although, I’m not sure if he’ll still be so handsome later on, as I’ve never imagined myself male. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed though!!!
As to the curse of mothers….well….at least if he acts like me I will know how to handle it!!!

Julie, at least you are one for two in the looks department! How many teeth do the girls have these days?
Ashley, you are so funny. I have claw toes, but I thought they were called monkey toes! HA! Rest assured that if even if Rylee looks like you when he’s older he can still be very handsome. I’m sure my dad never imagined himself female, and I have to admit-he is good looking as a girl! ;)
